"The Joker’s motivation is too random and it gives Batman a huge disadvantage in divining his next move right after a stint in Arkham Asylum. It's only after the Joker sets of one or a series of killings or Incidents that Batman can price together what the Joker might be after. And even then, he can't product the Joker’s endgame. He can only figure a pattern."
It's like joker is the disease etiology and Batman is the ever uncertain physician who can briefly see offline short flashes (aka system 1 short cases) of discernible patterns while trying to blend online the rest of her time (aka system 2 long case) in reflecting, abstract conceptualizing and experimenting 24x7 in the flow.
